Message to Iran/ Erdogan is firm: Turkey leaves nothing to chance

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan vowed on Wednesday that Ankara is "leaving nothing to chance" when it comes to the security of its borders and airspace in these difficult times the region is going through.

Turkey is taking all necessary measures in close consultation with NATO allies and is intervening immediately when necessary, Erdogan said.

Ankara also issues its strongest warnings to prevent similar incidents from happening again, he assured, referring to the missile ammunition incident with Iran on Wednesday.

"Our determination and ability to ensure the security of our country and nation are at the highest level," he added.

A ballistic missile fired from Iran and aimed at Turkish airspace on Wednesday was intercepted and neutralized by NATO air and missile defense units in the Eastern Mediterranean, the Turkish Defense Ministry said.

The ministry said on Turkish social media platform NSosyal that the missile, detected after passing through Iraq and Syria, was successfully shot down by air defenses.
