Turkey's Ministry of National Defense (MSB) has announced that a ballistic missile launched from Iran was neutralized by NATO air and missile defense systems before it entered Turkish airspace.
According to the official statement, the missile had initially passed over the airspace of Iraq and Syria and was heading towards Turkey. However, it was intercepted and destroyed in the air by defense elements deployed in the Eastern Mediterranean.
The ministry stressed that the interception was successful and posed no threat to Turkish territory or the civilian population. Authorities did not provide further details on the type of missile or the exact location of the interception.
The incident comes at a time of high tensions in the region, while Turkey, as a NATO member, relies on the alliance's common air defense architecture to ensure national security.
Turkish authorities stressed that they will continue to closely monitor the situation and cooperate closely with allies to prevent any potential threat to the country's airspace./ CNA
