The US state of Kansas sued Pfizer on Monday, accusing the company of misleading the public about its COVID-19 vaccine by hiding the risks and making false claims about its effectiveness, Reuters reports .

In a lawsuit that will take place in Thomas County Circuit Court, state authorities said the New York-based vaccine maker's alleged false statements violated the Kansas Consumer Protection Act. This state is demanding monetary compensation from the company, the figure is not yet known. 

"Pfizer made numerous misleading statements about its vaccine at a time when Americans needed the truth," Kansas Attorney General Kris Kobach said in a statement.

The lawsuit alleges that starting shortly after the vaccine was distributed in early 2021, Pfizer hid evidence that the shots were linked to pregnancy complications, including miscarriage, as well as inflammation in and around the heart, known as myocarditis and pericarditis. . /CNA
