Details/ Putin, towards North Korea, visit after 24 years

Russian President Vladimir Putin is on his way to North Korea's capital, Pyongyang, where he will meet with leader Kim Jong Un.

Putin will reportedly stay at the Kumsusan guesthouse in Pyongyang, where Chinese leader Xi Jinping stayed during a state visit to North Korea in 2019.

Putin is expected to stay overnight in North Korea before traveling to Vietnam.

The two leaders last met in September in Vladivostok, but this is Putin's first visit to Pyongyang since 2000.

The US and Seoul have accused North Korea of ??supplying Russia with artillery weapons and other equipment, likely in exchange for food and military aid.

The two countries deny the existence of an arms deal, but pledged last year to strengthen military ties.

Since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Putin has become distrustful of the West and has sought allies elsewhere.

After North Korea, Putin will visit Vietnam, a longtime ally, the two countries are expected to discuss issues such as trade./ CNA
