Exchanges of fire on the border between Lebanon and Israel

The Hezbollah group operating in Lebanon said it launched explosive drones at an Israeli command post on Sunday, as Israeli airstrikes pounded southern Lebanon. Violence fueled by the war in Gaza has spread along the entire Israeli-Lebanese border.

The Israeli military said the "suspicious aerial objects" had been launched from Lebanon and destroyed.

Two Israeli soldiers were seriously injured while several others suffered minor injuries, according to the army's statement.

Israeli warplanes carried out "a series of strikes against Hezbollah terrorist targets in Lebanese territory," the Israeli military added.

There were no reports of casualties in Lebanon.

Firefights between Israel and Hezbollah, a heavily armed group backed by Iran, are at their highest level since the 2006 war. The violence has been mostly concentrated in the border area.

Hezbollah said it used explosive drones to attack an Israeli command post near the Ya'ara area in Israel.

In Israel, sirens went off in several areas near the border.

In Beirut, residents said they had seen two warplanes.

Hezbollah has carried out a series of attacks claiming it is carrying them out in support of the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. On Saturday it was announced about 10 such.

In an attack elsewhere on the border this Sunday morning, the Hezbollah group said its fighters had managed to directly hit an Israeli position using "proper weapons".

Israeli airstrikes hit the outskirts of the village of Yaroun in Lebanon, not far from the site of that attack, according to the Lebanese National News Agency and a witness in the area.

The airstrikes smashed windows in houses, shops and damaged a school in the nearby village of Rmeich, Toni Elias, a priest in Rmeich, told Reuters news agency.

Border violence has killed more than 120 people in Lebanon, including 85 Hezbollah fighters and 16 civilians. Seven soldiers and four civilians died in Israel
