The Nobel Peace Prize winner says that the Iranian people will triumph against

The Iranian people will finally defeat the authoritarianism imposed by the Government, which has lost legitimacy and popular support, Nobel Peace Prize winner Narges Mohammadi said from prison in a speech read by her children on Sunday.

The Norwegian Nobel Committee awarded the prize to Mohammad in October for her nonviolent struggle "against the oppression of women in Iran" and for promoting human rights for all.

Her 17-year-old twins, Kiana and Ali Rahmani, accepted the award, a gold medal and a diploma, at a ceremony in Oslo, Norway, attended by several hundred guests. The prize also includes a cash sum of about 1 million dollars.

In her speech, delivered from Iran's notorious Evin prison, Mohammadi said continued resistance and non-violence are the best strategies for bringing about change.

"The Iranian people, with persistence, will defeat authoritarianism and oppression. Don't have doubts, that's for sure," she wrote in French.

She is serving multiple sentences on charges that include allegedly spreading propaganda against the Islamic Republic. She was arrested in November 2021.

"I am writing this message inside the high and cold walls of the prison," Mohammadi said, adding that she and many other activists in Iran are constantly fighting to "stay alive." She won the award about a year after the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini in the custody of Iran's morality police, who was arrested for allegedly not wearing the headscarf, or hijab, properly.

Iranian women have led nationwide protests, which were sparked by Amin's death in September 2022.

The protests slowly died down towards the end of 2022, as protesters faced strong repressive retaliation by security forces. Hundreds of protesters were killed and thousands arrested, according to activists and the United Nations./ Rel
