NATO chief visits White House/What will be discussed with President Trump

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte visited the White House today and is meeting with US President Donald Trump, at a key moment for Europe and NATO.

Rutte is visiting the US after Trump's rhetoric caused changes across the 32-member transatlantic military alliance.

The meeting comes as Trump demands that European countries spend more on their security, including the ongoing costs of supporting Ukraine's defensive war against Russia.

Rutte has sought to keep the world's most powerful military alliance together as European leaders craft their own strategies for dealing with Trump.

Trump and Rutte have not planned to hold a press conference, but are expected to speak to reporters in the Oval Office at the start of their meeting. /CNA
