US and EU reach trade deal

The US has reached a trade deal with the European Union, following meetings between President Donald Trump and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

The deal was announced by President Trump in his conversation with reporters at his golf resort in Turnberry, Scotland, shortly after emerging from a brief meeting with Ursula von der Leyen.

"We've reached a deal. It's a good deal for everybody. It's going to bring us closer together... it's a partnership in a way," Trump said.

EU chief Ursula von der Leyen also hailed it as a "great deal", which came after "difficult negotiations".

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen confirmed that there will be 15% US tariffs on goods from Europe at all levels.

The agreement also includes billions of dollars worth of investments and energy purchases from Brussels.
