Russell Brand accused again of rape and sexual assault

Russell Brand has been charged with two other criminal offences, including a charge of rape, the Metropolitan Police said.

In a new statement, the police force said the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has authorised an additional charge of rape and a charge of sexual assault in relation to two other women. The presenter, comedian and actor previously pleaded not guilty to five charges, including two counts of rape, two counts of sexual assault and a charge of indecent assault in relation to four women.

Brand, 50, will appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on January 20, 2026, in relation to the two new charges.

Detectives began investigating the allegations against Mr Brand, which came to light after reports by the Sunday Times, the Times and Channel 4's Dispatches in September 2023. The two new allegations are alleged to have occurred in 2009 and relate to estranged women, the CPS said. A trial will begin at Southwark Crown Court on June 16, 2026, into the five original allegations which are alleged to have occurred between 1999 and 2005 in central London and Bournemouth.

Brand, from Oxfordshire, is accused of raping a woman in Bournemouth in 1999 and indecent assaulting another in the Westminster area in 2001.

A third charge alleges he sexually assaulted a woman in Westminster between 2004 and 2005, while the remaining charges relate to the oral rape and alleged sexual assault of another woman in 2004 in the Westminster area. Metropolitan Police Inspector Tariq Farooqi said women who have made reports are receiving support from specially trained officers.

Brand, who was born in Essex, rose to fame as a comedian and became a household name as a presenter of television shows such as "Big Brother's Big Mouth", and with his radio programmes on stations including BBC Radio 2 and 6 Music.

He went on to build a career in Hollywood, starring in films such as “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” and “Get Him To The Greek.”/ CNA, translated by BBC
