Russia blocks gasoline exports to curb rising prices in the domestic market

Russia is imposing a ban on gasoline exports in order to curb rising prices in the domestic market and ensure sufficient supply in the country.

The measure is expected to come into effect from April 1, 2026 and last for several months.

The main reason is the increase in global energy prices and instability in international markets, also linked to the crisis in the Middle East.

Russia has previously experienced gasoline shortages in some regions, as well as problems caused by attacks on refineries and seasonal increases in demand.

The Russian government now aims to prioritize domestic supply and stabilize prices for Russian consumers.

Russia is a major exporter of about 5 million tons of gasoline per year. Such decisions usually affect international markets, driving up prices abroad. /CNA
