Iranian President: We will never give up the missile program

Iran's president, Masoud Pezeshkian, said on Monday that Tehran will never give up its missile program.

He said Iran needs such a program for its own security in a region where its sworn enemy, Israel, is able to "launch rockets into Gaza every day."

The Islamic Republic has for years ignored Western calls to curb its nuclear program.

The United States and its allies have recently accused Iran of supplying Russia with ballistic missiles for its war in Ukraine, which is why they have imposed sanctions on Moscow and Tehran.

Both Iran and Russia have denied the allegations.

"If we don't have rockets, they will bomb us whenever they want, like they do in Gaza," Pezeshkian said, referring to the war in Gaza between Israel and Hamas - the Palestinian group designated as a terrorist by the US and the EU. here.

He repeated the official position of Tehran, calling on the international community to "disarm Israel first, before making such demands to Iran".

Iran has been hit with sanctions several times since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 because of Moscow's use of Iranian drones, the Shahed and Mohajer, in the war.

Iran continues to deny that its drones are being used in war and insists that it does not take sides in this conflict./ REL
