Ukraine's security plans/ Zelensky: Priority is air defense

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced today on the social network 'X' that Ukraine's priority is air defense and that it is very important for Ukraine that its partners listen to it and help it.

"Ukrainians know how to be precise. We have already learned to shoot down a significant amount of Russian weapons of terror," Zelensky wrote.

He added that Ukraine must strengthen its air defense system in order to protect itself from Russia's continued attacks.

"We need to address the lack of air defense systems to make our skies protected. Our partners can help us with this and also accelerate the implementation of all previously reached agreements," Zelensky said.

Before the start of the summit in Brussels, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius had informed reporters that Germany would increase military aid to Ukraine by providing four IRIS-T air defense systems, 30 additional missiles for Patriot air defense systems, 15 Leopard tanks, 14 artillery systems and many other ammunition as part of the package.

Reacting to Pistorius' announcement, Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov wrote on 'X' that the package would help us protect airspace and strengthen positions on the battlefield.

Zelensky joined the summit held in Brussels on Friday via virtual video link. /CNA
