Ceasefire with Ukraine/ Rubio: We will learn Putin's decision in a few

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said he will know in weeks, not months, whether Vladimir Putin is serious about peace and a ceasefire in Ukraine.

Speaking after a meeting of NATO foreign ministers in Brussels, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that ending the war is a decision that will ultimately have to be made by the Russian president.

This follows similar comments from his British and French counterparts on Friday morning on the sidelines of the NATO meeting, who also accused Putin of continuing to drag out his decision and bombings.

Rubio stressed that President Trump will not retreat into indefinite negotiations. European leaders accused Putin of stalling and demanded concrete action from Moscow.

"We'll know soon, in a few weeks, not months, whether Russia is serious about peace or not. I hope they are. If this is about dragging things out, President Trump will not fall into the trap of endless negotiations for negotiations," Rubio said at the conclusion of the two-day NATO summit.

Rubio stressed that Washington is closely watching Russia's actions, not words, and will base any decision on how the Kremlin responds to ongoing efforts for a ceasefire.
