Pope Leo XIV: Let us pray for peace for those suffering from war and violence

Pope Leo XIV celebrated Sunday Mass today at the Parish of St. Thomas of Villanova in Castel Gandolfo. In his address, the Pope shared the message that we must turn to God and that when we experience God's love and healing, we are able to offer the same comfort to others we meet.

After Sunday's Angelus catechesis, Pope Leo XIV called on everyone to pray for peace and to remember all those who suffer because of violence and war and who find themselves in need.

The words echoed what he had previously expressed in his homily during Mass, which he presided over Sunday morning at St. Thomas Parish in Villanova, when he spoke of the wounded man in the parable of the Good Samaritan and how violence and poverty destroy dreams and lives.

Pope Leo addressed the crowds, which included thousands of believers gathered in the area or watching from balconies.

He greeted participants of the Liturgical Academy Summer Course from Poland, pilgrims from the Parish of San Pedro Apostol in the Diocese of Alcala de Henares, celebrating their 400th anniversary, a group of Augustinian nuns in formation, and the Choir from the Academie Musicale de Liesse in France.

In particular, the Pope addressed the cadets of the Velletri Carabinieri School, named after the Venerable Salvo D'Acquisto, encouraging them to persevere in their service to the country and civil society, and asking everyone to give a round of applause to those who serve. /CNA
