The World Health Organization has raised concerns that more people could die from disease than from bombings in the Gaza Strip.
International media reports that a WHO spokesman said on Tuesday that if the health system in Gaza is not repaired, it will lead to an increase in infectious diseases and diarrhea among children.
Gaza health authorities say more than 15,000 people have been confirmed killed by Israel's shelling, about 40% of them children, while many others are suspected to have been lost under the rubble.
"Eventually we're going to see more people dying from disease than we're seeing from bombing if we're not able to put this health system back together, " WHO's Margaret Harris told a UN conference in Geneva.
She reiterated concerns about an increase in infectious diseases, especially diarrhea among infants and children.
"Everybody everywhere has dire health needs right now because they're hungry because they lack clean water and, " she said.
Under the terms of a ceasefire, Israel has allowed more aid to flow into Gaza, including food, water and medicine, although aid agencies say it is not enough to meet the urgent needs.
Citing a UN report on the living conditions of displaced residents in northern Gaza, Harris said: " There is no medicine, no vaccination activities, no access to safe water and sanitation and no food," he said . she.
Nearly three-quarters of hospitals, or 26 out of 36, have been completely closed in Gaza, she added, due to shelling or lack of fuel./ CNA
