Changes in Hollywood/ Trump is considering 100% tariffs on films not made in the

US President Donald Trump announced he was considering a 100% tariff on foreign-produced films, saying the American film industry was dying a "very fast death" because of incentives other countries were offering to lure filmmakers.

"This is a joint effort by other Nations and, therefore, a threat to National Security. It is, above all else, a message and propaganda," Trump said on Truth Social.

Trump said he was authorizing relevant government agencies, such as the Department of Commerce, to immediately begin the process of imposing a 100% tariff on all foreign-produced films that are then shipped to the United States.

Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said he agreed with the decision.

Neither Lutnick nor Trump provided details on how the tariffs would be implemented.

It was not clear whether the fees would apply to films on streaming services as well as those shown in theaters, or whether they would be calculated based on production costs or box office revenue. Hollywood executives were trying to clarify the details Sunday night. The Motion Picture Association, which represents the major studios, had no immediate comment./CNA
