Trump meets with Lebanese counterpart / Discusses naval blockade by Houthi rebels

US President Donald Trump hosted the Lebanese president at the White House today.

During the talks, the two leaders referred to the naval blockade of Saudi Arabia by the Houthi rebels, which Trump assured is essential to international navigation and that the US will take immediate action.

Responding to reporters' questions about the possibility that the naval blockade by Yemeni rebels could lead to the closure of the straits and further complicate maritime navigation, Donald Trump appeared reassuring, but also warning.

"So far, that hasn't happened. It could happen, but we're watching things. If something like that happens, we'll take action," Trump said.

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun has traveled to Washington to hold discussions with several US officials on the situation in Lebanon and ways to strengthen the ceasefire, especially in the south.

This will be the first trip to Washington by a Lebanese head of state since Michel Sleiman was hosted by Barack Obama in 2009./CNA
