Food trucks banned/Israel again strains relations with Hamas

Israel banned the entry of all goods and food supplies into the Gaza Strip this Sunday and warned of "additional consequences" if Hamas does not accept a new proposal to extend the ceasefire.

Hamas accused Israel of trying to break the ceasefire agreement hours after the first phase of the deal ended. Hamas called the decision to cut off aid a "blatant extortion, a war crime and an open attack" on the ceasefire, which was implemented in January after more than a year of negotiations.

The two sides are still negotiating a second phase, in which Hamas would release dozens of remaining hostages in exchange for an Israeli withdrawal from Gaza and a lasting ceasefire. The talks were supposed to start a month ago. Meanwhile, the main mediator between the sides on the food issue, Egypt, accused Israel of using "hunger as a weapon." /CNA
