The "Student Edict" protest, sparked by the death of 15 people in the collapse of a shelter at the Novi Sad railway station on November 1 last year, began today in Niš. This is the fifth mass protest and will last until 3 am.
The students left in the morning from the faculties of Niš towards the city center, where they will be joined by the citizens of Niš and thousands of people from surrounding countries and all of Serbia.
Traffic in the city center has been blocked, while preparations for the reception of thousands of protesters have begun since morning. Students from various cities in Serbia arrived in Niš yesterday evening. After walking up to 200 kilometers, they were greeted with ovations and an explosion of emotions. Likewise, along the way they were welcomed and accompanied with support in the cities and settlements they passed through, where residents provided them with food and drink, while many of them joined the journey to Niš.
The protest will last 18 hours symbolically, as 018 is the telephone code for Niš. Solidarity protests and commemorative moments with traffic jams are held every day from 11:52 to 12:07, the same time as the fatal shelter collapse./ CNA
