Macron-Merz meeting/ They agree on a new chapter in relations between the two countries

French President Emmanuel Macron and Germany's conservative chancellor-in-waiting Friedrich Merz agreed during a meeting in Paris to open a new chapter in Franco-German relations, a source close to Merz told Reuters.

"There was a great deal of agreement and many starting points for joint initiatives," the source said, adding that there had been a friendly atmosphere during their meeting on Wednesday at the Elysee Palace.

Earlier, Friedrich Merz published several photos on social media from his meeting with President Macron. Alongside the photos, Merz thanked Emmanuel Macron and said that the two countries can achieve great things for Europe.
