Special summit on Ukraine/ Council of Europe announces meeting on March 6

European Council President Antonio Costa announced that European Union leaders will gather for a special summit on March 6 to address the ongoing war in Ukraine and broader European security concerns.

"I have decided to convene a special European Council on March 6. We are living a defining moment for Ukraine and European security," Costa said.

Costa said discussions with European leaders revealed a shared commitment to strengthening European defense and ensuring Ukraine's long-term security. He pledged to work closely with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and EU member states to prepare concrete decisions ahead of the summit.

The announcement comes as EU leaders push to exert their influence on diplomatic efforts amid concerns about their exclusion from key U.S.-Russia discussions on Ukraine. Some fear that a potential deal could be reached without significant European input.
