Denmark has decided to ban smartphones in schools and outside.
The education minister announced the move on Tuesday following recommendations from a group formed by the government to look into the welfare of children.
Although many schools in the UK have rules prohibiting smartphones, they are not prohibited by law.
Scotland, England, Wales and Northern Ireland have guidelines for schools on phone use.
Full details have not been released by the Danish government, but Mattias Tesfaye, Minister for Children and Education, says that "personal mobile phones and tablets will not be allowed in school, neither during breaks nor during class hours."
The plan follows recommendations from a youth welfare commission, which also recommended restricting smartphone use for children aged 13 and above./ CNA
