Mitsotakis: A week's free holiday in Rhodes for tourists who left Greece

The Greek government will offer a week of free holidays in Rhodes to those tourists who were forced to interrupt their stay on the island due to the devastating fires that broke out on the island in the previous period, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has announced.

"The Greek government, in cooperation with the local authorities, will offer a free week's holiday in Rhodes next spring or autumn to all those who missed it because of the fires," the prime minister noted, speaking on the British channel ITV Wednesday morning.

The prime minister said that "as you know, big fires have always happened in the Mediterranean", but "what has changed in recent years due to climate change is their scale". 

"We had a devastating fire in Rhodes, but today the island is back to normal and there is no active front." 

Finally, Kyriakos Mitsotakis stated that during the fire there was no loss of human life and no reports of injuries. 

" We managed to evacuate 20,000 people with great safety," he said./kathimerini.gr
