Support for Palestinian businesses/ EU launches 400 million euro fund

The European Investment Bank and the European Commission have launched a €400 million financing program, making up to $395 million available to Palestinian micro, small and medium-sized enterprises through local banks.

The money will be channeled through five banks under signed sub-loan agreements. The financing is intended for micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, a broad category covering the smallest businesses, and will be provided through local financial intermediaries.

A technical assistance of 2.1 million euros is being distributed as part of a 3.5 million euro package, after 1.4 million euros had already been distributed.

The €400 million operation is part of the European Commission's "Multiannual and Comprehensive Programme for Palestinian Recovery and Resilience", which has a total budget of up to €1.6 billion for the period 2025 to 2027.

This program includes about 620 million euros in grants to support the Palestinian Authority and about 576 million euros for projects in the West Bank, East Jerusalem and Gaza "when conditions permit," according to the same statement. /CNA
