Agreement with Ukraine/ Rubio: It won't be easy

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, in an interview on the "This Week" program with journalist George Stephanopoulos on ABC News, said that the agreement with Ukraine will not be easy.

Rubio hopes that talks with Ukraine can resume, but it won't be an easy peace deal.

Rubio emphasized that these conflicts are not easy to resolve.

“But what peace agreement in the history of the world has ever been easy? That’s the hard work of diplomacy. That’s what the vice president was alluding to. That’s what peace agreements are about. You’ve covered this. You’ve been around for a long time. These conflicts are not easy to resolve. They can’t be resolved at all if you don’t even have a process to try to resolve it, if you don’t have the parties at the table.

And now that has been our goal. It has been clearly explained to Ukrainians and Europeans and everyone else who wants to know for weeks, weeks. And the only thing they were told was not to do things to ruin it. And unfortunately, President Zelenskyy could not hold back on that. I hope that all of this can be restored. I hope that he understands that we are actually trying to help his country here before it suffers thousands of more casualties. Three million people have already fled Ukraine. Will they ever be able to come back? He has been holding Ukrainians, including children, captive on the Russian side. Is all of this good for anyone? And the argument that we are just going to keep it going forever is absurd.

"So it's time to bring the Russians to the table if possible and see if there's a way forward that ends this conflict and makes sure it never happens again. That's our goal. That remains our goal. That's the President's goal." /CNA
