When will the war in Iran end?

When will the war in Iran end?

There are several contradictory statements from foreign officials about the duration of the war against Iran, which began after the joint US and Israeli attacks on February 28, 2026.

US President Donald Trump initially said the operation could take 4-5 weeks and that it would not be too difficult.

US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth suggested that the operation could last 2 to 8 weeks, emphasizing that it will not be an endless war like the one in Iraq.

On the other hand, US Chief of Staff Dan Caine warned that military objectives will take time to achieve and that the war will not end immediately.

Trump has given different messages in recent days, on some occasions saying that the war is almost over and that the US is "well ahead of schedule" and on other occasions stressing that the operation will continue "as long as necessary."

The president also demanded unconditional surrender from Iran and said the war will only end when the country no longer poses a threat.

Why the end of the war is unclear

The objectives of the war are not entirely clear. Iran has shown no signs of surrender and continues its missile and drone attacks.

The conflict is also affecting the global economy, particularly oil prices and traffic in the Strait of Hormuz.

No one knows exactly when the war will end. Although some US officials talk about specific periods, contradictory statements and the situation on the ground indicate that the conflict could last longer than expected./CNA
