"This day reminds us of the pain and sacrifice of the people"/ Kurti

Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti recalled today one of the most tragic events, that of June 1, 1998 in the municipality of Deçan, when Serbian forces launched a major military offensive in the Dukagjini region, committing serious crimes against the Albanian population.

Kurti stated that according to data from international organizations such as Human Rights Watch and the OSCE, this action was characterized by the use of heavy weapons against civilian settlements, the forced displacement of Albanians from their homes, executions and disappearances of innocent civilians, as well as the deliberate destruction of property.

 In his speech, Kurti emphasized that the sacrifice of the people of Kosovo remains the foundation of freedom. 

 "On June 1, 1998, as part of a broad military campaign in Dukagjin, Serbian forces carried out a brutal operation that included the siege and bombing of villages such as Pobërgjë, Hulaj, Batushë and others in the surrounding area. On this 27th anniversary, we honor the 19 civilians killed by Serbian forces and commemorate all those who fell during the war for freedom. This day reminds us of the pain, but also the determination of our people for freedom and dignity. May the memory of all the martyrs and martyrs of the nation be unforgettable. Eternal glory," Kurti said. /CNA
