New NASA chief/ Trump to announce new space agency nominee soon

The White House has withdrawn Jared Isaacman's name as a candidate for NASA administrator, unexpectedly removing a close ally of Elon Musk from consideration to lead the space agency.

US President Donald Trump said he will announce a new candidate soon.

"After a thorough review of previous associations, I am hereby withdrawing Jared Isaacman's nomination to lead NASA. I will soon announce a new nominee who will be mission-driven and will put America first in space," President Trump said.

One name being mentioned is that of retired US Air Force Lieutenant General Steven Kwest, an early advocate for the creation of a US Space Force and a Trump supporter, according to well-known experts on government discussions.

White House spokeswoman Elizabeth Huston told CBS News in a previous statement that the next NASA administrator will help lead humanity into space and execute President Trump's bold mission to plant the American flag on the planet Mars.

"It is essential that the next leader of NASA is fully aligned with President Trump's "America First" agenda, and a replacement will be announced directly by President Trump soon," Huston said. /CNA
