Italy promises an additional 35 million euros for the Palestinians

Italy will continue to fund the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) as part of a 35 million euro aid package, Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said today during a meeting in Rome with the Palestinian Prime Minister. , Mohamed Mustafa. 

Tajani specified that five million euros will be allocated to UNRWA projects, while the remaining 30 million euros will be allocated to the "Food for Gaza" initiative that he has launched, "Reuters" reports.

"Italy has decided to continue financing some projects aimed at providing aid to Palestinian refugees, but only after a rigorous check that the funds will not be used to support terrorism," said Tajani.

Italy was one of a number of countries that blocked UNRWA aid after Israeli allegations that a dozen agency workers were involved in an October 7 attack by Hamas in southern Israel.

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East employs 13,000 people in the Gaza Strip and manages schools, primary health clinics, social services and the distribution of humanitarian aid in the Palestinian enclave.

The UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the World Food Program (WFP) and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies participate in the "Food for Gaza" initiative./CNA
