Europol dismantles the criminal cocaine trafficking gang, 28 arrested

Europol has supported the Spanish and Colombian police in cracking down on a criminal cocaine smuggling network.

The organization, made up mainly of Colombian and Spanish suspects, was led by a former member of the now disbanded Colombian paramilitary group 'Bloque Central Bolívar'. 

During the action, 26 suspects were arrested and a cocaine extraction and processing laboratory was dismantled. 2 other suspects were taken into custody in Colombia.

The police seized 47 kilograms of freshly processed cocaine hydrochloride; 20 kilograms of processed cocaine, 2 kilograms of marijuana; 3,000 liters and 300 kilograms of different chemicals; 3 firearms; 245,000 euros in cash and 13 vehicles.

Smart technique

Using a sophisticated method to avoid detection, the traffickers packed legal cargo of drugs into cardboard boxes among the fruit. Once successfully shipped in sea containers from Colombia to Malaga, Spain, the organization would extract the cocaine base from the carton and process it into the final consumer product, ready for distribution./CNA
