Russia does not stop, massive drone attacks in Ukraine

Russia has targeted Ukraine with another wave of attacks.

Air strike alerts were issued early on Tuesday after Ukrainian monitors detected Russian jets firing hypersonic missiles. Mass drone attacks have also been reported.

Ukraine's air defense forces say the entire country is under threat of a ballistic missile attack.

In a statement, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that long-range and precision sea-based weapons had been used to strike power stations and related infrastructure across Ukraine, including in Kiev, Lviv and the Kharkiv and Odesa regions.

At least three people were killed overnight and dozens were injured after more than half of Ukraine's regions were attacked by drones and missiles.

US President Joe Biden called the attacks "savage", saying Washington would continue to support Ukraine's energy grid.

UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy condemned Russia's "cowardly missile and drone attacks on civilian infrastructure".

And the head of the Zaporizhzhia regional administration, Ivan Fedorov, said that one man had been killed and a man and a woman were injured in the city of Zaporizhzhia.

The latest attacks are being seen as an attempt by Moscow to reassert its control over the conflict following Ukraine's recent territorial gains in Russia's Kursk region.

Russia has targeted Ukraine's energy infrastructure since the beginning of its full-scale invasion, which began in February 2022.

In recent months it has renewed its campaign of attacks on the electricity grid, causing frequent blackouts across the country.

On Monday, Zelensky called on Western allies including Britain, the US and France to change their rules and allow Ukraine to use its weapons to strike deeper into Russia./ Translated by the BBC.
