New Bulgarian government declares it will not provide weapons to Ukraine

Bulgaria's newly appointed Defense Minister, Dimitar Stoyanov, said on Tuesday that his country will no longer supply weapons to Ukraine.

As reported by the BTA news agency, Stoyanov called on Moscow and Kiev to sit at the negotiating table to end the war.

Bulgaria, a NATO and European Union member state with a strategic position on the Black Sea, has sent anti-tank missiles, armored vehicles, mortars, anti-aircraft guns and howitzers to Ukraine in 2024 and 2025, as well as infantry weapons, following a political change.

In 2022 and 2023, Bulgaria did not officially export weapons and ammunition to Ukraine, but instead exported mainly to European intermediaries, with Bulgarian officials stating that they could not control what the buyers did with these exports.
