The 52nd failure to constitute the Kosovo Assembly has prompted harsh reactions from diplomatic representatives of the European Union, Germany and Great Britain in Pristina, who described this situation as unacceptable and disappointing for citizens.
The EU Ambassador to Kosovo, Aivo Orav, said after the session ended on Friday that "Kosovo needs an Assembly more or less immediately" and stressed the need for a new government that would strengthen relations with Brussels.
"A new government that will build a new and strong bridge between Kosovo and the EU," Orav declared after the session held on Friday.
The German ambassador, Jorn Rohde, expressed a similar opinion, assessing that the political class is failing in the face of citizens.
"Citizens went out to vote on February 9th and now it's been almost six months. It's unfortunate that the Assembly is not being constituted," he said.
Rohde also commented on the decision of the Constitutional Court, which the day before imposed a temporary measure prohibiting any action by deputies to constitute the Assembly from July 27 to August 8.
According to her, if this measure were not imposed, any decision taken after July 26 until the Court's decision regarding the requests submitted to it "could cause irreparable damage to the constitutional order."
"This is a red card for the political class," Rohde said, emphasizing the urgency for the formation of institutions.
The British Ambassador to Kosovo, Jonathan Hargreaves, has called on Kosovo politicians to unite and find a solution to end the blockade, before the implementation of the Constitutional Court's interim measure begins.
"Otherwise, Kosovo is entering uncharted territory and its citizens continue to lose meaningful political representation and the ability to make important domestic and international decisions that affect the lives of citizens," the ambassador said in a Facebook post.
International representatives from the United States, the EU, Germany, the United Kingdom and France were present at Friday's session, which failed one day before the end of the 30-day deadline set by the Constitution for the constitution of the Assembly.
Although the Vetëvendosje Movement is entitled to the position of speaker of parliament, other parties either oppose the proposed name, that of Albulena Haxhiu, or the change in the voting method for it - from open to secret.
Since there are less than 48 hours left before the temporary Constitutional measure comes into force, the chairman of the session, Avni Dehari, has called the next session, the 53rd in a row, for tomorrow, Saturday, at 2:00 PM.
The deputies must elect the president and five vice presidents to finally constitute the new Assembly.
Only after the constitution of the Assembly can the new Government be formed./ REL
