Nuclear talks: Iran to meet with 3 European countries

Iran has agreed to meet with three major European countries, Germany, France and the United Kingdom, to hold new talks on the country's nuclear program. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said work is underway to set a date for the meeting with the Europeans.

The minister stressed that Tehran's approach to nuclear talks is stronger than before.

Local media reported that he had spoken with the European Union's foreign policy chief, Kaja Kallas, and his counterparts in Britain, France and Germany on Friday.

According to the same media, an agreement was reached on the format of the negotiations, which are expected to take place at the level of deputy foreign ministers.

Following the attacks, Iran suspended cooperation with the UN nuclear watchdog, which led to the inspectors' expulsion.

The latest opportunity for talks comes amid reports that European powers threatened to reinstate sanctions eased in a 2015 deal to limit Iran's nuclear production using a so-called "go-back-in-time" mechanism if Iran did not resume talks. /CNA
