Biden: Netanyahu is making a "mistake" in Gaza

The President of the United States, Joe Biden, said that he believes that the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, is making a "mistake" in the way he is handling Gaza.

"I think what he is doing is wrong. I don't agree with his approach," Biden said in an interview with Univision - a Spanish-language television network.

He said Gaza should have "full access to all food and medicine" in the next six to eight weeks.

Last week, Biden warned that continued US support for Israel's war will depend on how much aid and medicine he allows in.

Israel denies blocking aid from entering Gaza, saying it is UN agencies that have failed to deliver it.

Israel launched a campaign of attacks in Gaza - the enclave inhabited by Palestinians - after Hamas, a terrorist group designated by the US and other powers, attacked its territory last October, killing more than 1,200 people and taking hundreds more hostage. .

Israeli authorities say that of the 130 hostages remaining in Gaza, at least 34 are dead.

The Hamas-run Gaza Health Ministry says more than 33,000 Gazans have been killed since Israel launched the offensive.

Large parts of the territory have been destroyed and many of the inhabitants are suffering from hunger.

Biden said it is "disgusting" how the vehicles of aid organizations "have been hit with drones".

"What I'm asking is that the Israelis call for a cease-fire, allow within the next six to eight weeks full access to all food and medicine going into that country," Biden said.

Earlier, Biden said that Hamas should agree to a pause and the release of the remaining hostages.

Israel has recently said it will open a passage to northern Gaza and a deep-water port to allow more aid to flow into the area. But it is not yet clear when these will happen.

Biden is facing domestic pressure over Israel. In recent weeks, he has toughened his rhetoric against Netanyahu as well.

But military supplies, including bombs, missiles and ammunition, have continued to flow from the US to Israel without interruption.

Israel has received more aid from the US than any other country since World War II.

The United States has traditionally defended Israel in the UN Security Council and has vetoed three draft resolutions on the war in Gaza.

Last month, the US abstained when the Security Council called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza./ Rel
