The EU will deploy over 1,000 rescuers to Turkey

Twenty-seven search and rescue teams have been mobilized to search for survivors in Turkey, European Crisis Commissioner Janez Lenarcic said.

"EU solidarity is at its best," he tweeted.

The units are from 19 European countries, including two countries that are not part of the EU, Albania and Montenegro.

In total, 1,150 rescuers and 70 dogs will be sent to Turkey.

Their deployment is coordinated on the basis of the EU Civil Protection Mechanism. Through this mechanism, states can request emergency assistance from the EU and the states participating in this mechanism.

On January 6, Turkey was hit by two powerful earthquakes of over 7 magnitudes. From the powerful earthquakes, over 5,000 people have been killed in Turkey and Syria and thousands more have disappeared./REL
