The author of the wounding of the Slovak prime minister remains in prison, risks
Juraj Cintula

Juraj Cintula, the suspect in the attack on Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fitz, pleaded guilty in court today.

Local media reports that Cintula was taken today to the Specialized Criminal Court in the city of Pezhinok, with special security measures, and neither journalists nor the public could enter the court premises.

Dozens of regional police officers and special forces were stationed in front of the court.

The prosecutor submitted to the court on Friday the proposal for the measure of the executive measure for the 71-year-old man from Levice, who shot the prime minister several times after the government session on Wednesday and seriously injured him.

The prosecutor requests the measure of detention for the accused because of the possible escape and because of the risk of repeating the criminal offense, said the spokeswoman of the court, Katarina Ku?akova.

Cintula was arrested shortly after the attack and faces charges of attempted first-degree revenge murder, which carries a sentence of 25 years to life in prison.

According to the Minister of the Interior, Matus Sutaj Estok, and the Minister of Defense, Robert Kalinjak, the attack was politically motivated.

Cintula allegedly took part in several anti-government protests and opposed the suspension of aid to Ukraine and the liquidation of Slovak media. Prime Minister Robert Fitz's condition remains serious./ CNA
