US Secretary of State Antony Blinken held talks on Monday in Israel with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding the escalation of the conflict with Hamas, the BBC reports .
This is the second trip of the US top diplomat to Israel in just one week.
During the meeting, Blinken received an update on the situation on the ground, the State Department said. He reaffirmed his support for Israel to defend itself from Hamas and the US's willingness to help the country, the department added.
The meeting comes as the humanitarian crisis in Gaza reaches a critical point, with water, food and medical supplies running low.
Blinken also plans to speak with Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant as well as Israeli President Isaac Herzog during his trip.
More than 2,700 Palestinians have been killed and 9,700 injured in Gaza in Israel's retaliatory attacks since the Hamas attacks.
Hamas is a Palestinian militant group that has ruled the Gaza Strip since 2007.
