Bloomberg News apologized Monday for prematurely publishing a story last week that revealed a prisoner exchange between the United States and Russia. The announcement also said the organization had disciplined the employees involved.
The article was published nearly four hours before the White House embargo on the story was lifted.
John Micklethwait, Bloomberg's editor-in-chief, said in a staff briefing Monday that the article was a clear violation of ethical standards. Bloomberg did not say how many employees were disciplined and did not identify them.
He said he had written to each of the former prisoners to apologize. Mr Micklethwait also said he had written to the editor of the Wall Street Journal, the employer of the journalist arrested and convicted in Russia, Evan Gershkovich.
"We take news accuracy very seriously," he said in the release. "But we also have a responsibility to do the right thing. In this case we did not do it."/ VOA
