Kosovo authorities have said that on August 4 they arrested a citizen of North Macedonia, suspected of producing and distributing counterfeit 2-euro notes.

The suspect was ordered to be detained for 48 hours.

On the other hand, in North Macedonia it has been said that controls were carried out in three locations and machines for the production of counterfeit money with 2 euro denominations, money templates and other materials for the production of counterfeit coins, including all the material, were seized. the first of their production.

Through a joint communiqué of the Kosovar and Macedonian authorities, it was said that the operation was supported by the European Police Agency (EUROPOL) and the European Union Agency for Cooperation in Criminal Justice (Eurojust).

According to the joint communique, in the period 2023-24 several actions have been taken to prevent counterfeit money.

The circulation of that money is considered to have disrupted the money market and damaged public interest, the Kosovo authorities have assessed.

Last year, the Kosovo Police initiated hundreds of cases for the criminal offense of "counterfeiting money", while it was estimated that hundreds of thousands of fake euros were circulating in the market.

Fake money in the value of 2 and 50 euros circulated the most.

In some cases, traders have stopped making payments with these currencies, for fear of fraud./ REL
