Israel prepares for war on all fronts

Due to massive threats of attack from its sworn enemies, Israel's security forces are on high alert. It is expected that the attacks threatened by Iran and the Lebanese Shiite militia Hezbollah will take place "on several fronts", reports the Israeli television channel "Channel 12". This means that in addition to Hezbollah, other armed groups, such as Houthi militias in Yemen and militias loyal to Iran in Iraq and Syria.

The risk of a regional armed conflict emerged after two high-ranking enemies of Israel fell victim to deadly attacks. On Wednesday evening, an explosion in the room of a government guest house in Tehran killed the foreign chief of Hamas, Ismail Haniya. A few hours ago, the top commander of Hezbollah, Fuad Shukr, was killed during an air attack in Beirut.

Israel claimed responsibility for the attack on Shukr, but has yet to comment on the assassination of Haniya. Iran and Hamas blame the Jewish state for his murder.

Concerted attack in the coming days?

The Israeli leadership is currently discussing possible responses to such a concerted attack. These include "the readiness to enter this context into a full-scale war," Channel 12 said. It remains unclear when acts of revenge may occur. Tehran's and Hezbollah's statements constantly talk about "the coming days".

If this happens, Israel can count on the support of the US and other allies. The US announced that it will strengthen its defense capabilities in the region. The Pentagon said it will send additional warships and fighter jets to protect US forces and Israel.

Israel has faced repeated rocket attacks from Hezbollah in recent days. According to Lebanese security sources, about 50 rockets were fired from southern Lebanon into northern Israel. According to Israeli media, many missiles were intercepted by the Iron Dome defense system.

France today called on its citizens in Lebanon to leave the country. Other countries such as Germany and Great Britain have already asked their citizens to leave Lebanon a few days ago. /DW
