Democratic National Committee Chairman Jaime Harrison said Vice President Kamala Harris was the only candidate for whom nearly 4,000 Democratic Party delegates had voted.

"I am honored to be the Democratic nominee for President of the United States," Harris said. The 59-year-old will be officially named the party's nominee at a party convention later this month. Chicago

Huge support for Harris candidacy

Kamala Harris became the Democratic front-runner after President Joe Biden withdrew from the race last month. Harris quickly won the support of many important figures, including Barack and Michelle Obama.

Biden's running mate in the 2020 presidential election was the only candidate to qualify for the Democratic presidential primary. This means that there was no doubt about the outcome of the delegates' vote, which theoretically continues until Monday.

"I am happy that we have enough delegates to secure the announcement of my candidacy," Harris said. "Later this month we will gather in Chicago united as a party and have the opportunity to celebrate this historic moment together."
