US Vice President Kamala Harris has secured enough delegate votes to become the Democratic Party's nominee for president, Democratic National Committee Chairman Jaime Harrison said.

The announcement, made on August 2, comes before the Democratic online voting process ends on Monday.

Harris entered the race for the party's nomination after US President Joe Biden withdrew from the race and endorsed his replacement.

Harris said she was "honored to be the Democratic nominee" for the November presidential race.

"It will not be easy. But we will make it. As your future president, I know that we are ready for this war," she said.

Harrison said Democrats "will support Vice President Kamala Harris and show the strength of our party" during the caucus in Chicago later this month.

The Democratic National Committee did not provide details on the number of delegates who voted for him, including the breakdown of votes by state.

No other candidate challenged Harris for the nomination, and many Democrats immediately offered their support after Biden endorsed him.

In the Democratic Assembly, each state will vote separately, as this is the traditional way of selecting the presidential candidate, but after online voting, this vote will be completely ceremonial.

In the November elections, Harris will stick with the Republican nominee, former president, Donald Trump./ REL
