Turkey arrests 99 suspected IS members

Turkey's Interior Minister said that 99 suspected members of the extremist group, the Islamic State, have been arrested across the country.

The arrests were made mainly in Ankara and Izmir in the west of the country, but also in the east and south, Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said in a post on X.

"Ninety-nine suspects have been arrested in the GURZ-4 operation, which lasted three days," Yerlikaya said.
"We will not tolerate any terrorist," he added.

In recent years, Turkish authorities have carried out several mass arrests of suspected IS members. In March, Turkish authorities arrested 147 suspected members of the extremist group.

After these arrests, Yerlikaya stated that the police had arrested a total of 2,919 people suspected of being related to the extremist group./ REL
