Milad Bidi, a member of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, was killed in an Israeli airstrike on July 30 that targeted senior Hezbollah commander Fuad Shukr in Beirut, Lebanon.

Confirming his death, Revolutionary Guard commander Hossein Salami praised Bidi for "his fight against the criminal and occupying Zionist regime," referring to Israel, Iran's enemy.

"He will be an inspiration for our revolutionary youth," Salami said in a statement published by the Tasnim news agency.

Bidi is the second member of the Islamic Republic Guard to be killed in Israeli strikes since the bombing of the Iranian Embassy in Damascus on April 1. Seven members of the Iranian League, including two generals, were killed in that attack.

Iran retaliated by firing an unprecedented number of drones and missiles at Israel, as Tehran warned it would retaliate against any Israeli attack on its interests in the region.

Shukr and Bidi were killed hours before Ismail Haniyeh, the political leader of Hamas - the Palestinian group designated a terrorist organization by the United States and the European Union - was killed in Tehran.

The supreme leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, said that Iran "has a duty" to take revenge for the killing of the political chief of Hamas. Iran and its regional allies have blamed Israel for his murder.

At least 20 members of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps have been killed in attacks allegedly carried out by Israel in Syria and Lebanon since the war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza began in October 2023./ REL
