Two people are killed in a knife attack in Tel Aviv

A Palestinian attacker killed two people and wounded two others in a stabbing attack in Israel before being killed by police, Israeli authorities said.

The attack happened Sunday morning near a gas station and a park in the city of Holon, near Tel Aviv, according to authorities.

A man and a woman were killed, while two other people were injured and rushed to hospital, medical officials said.

"The terrorist was immediately neutralized by one of our officers at the scene, who prevented him from carrying out a more serious attack," police spokeswoman Eli Levi told Israeli Channel 12 television.

In a press release, the police said that they are at the scene and that "we are carrying out comprehensive raids with a helicopter and additional resources".

The radical Palestinian group Hamas - which has been designated a terrorist organization by the United States and the European Union - said the stabbing was a "natural response" to Israeli attacks on Palestinians and the killing of its political leader, Ismail Haniyeh, last week. passed in Tehran.
