The Democratic candidate for president of the United States, Kamala Harris, has narrowed down the list of whom to choose to run for vice president in the November 5 election to two names.

According to Reuters news agency sources, Harris will choose between Pennsylvania governor Josh Shapiro or Minnesota governor Tim Walz.

Harris, the vice president of the United States, is expected to announce the name on Tuesday before making his first public appearance with the vice presidential candidate at a Temple University event in Philadelphia.

That organization will mark the start of a five-day tour in seven different US states, with the aim of increasing support before the presidential elections.

Choosing a candidate for the presidential ticket is among the most important decisions of Harris' political career, as she tries to defeat the Republican candidate, former President Donald Trump and US Senator JD Vance, selected by Trump as a candidate for vice president.

Shapiro, 51, is a rising star in the party and has significant support in Pennsylvania, a key state for a candidate to win the election.

If Harris chooses her, Shapiro could become the first Jew to serve as US vice president, while Harris aims to become the first black woman to hold the position of US president.

Walz, 60, a former Army National Guard member and former teacher, has steadily raised his name in the party and has recently become known for his criticism of Trump and Vance.

Candidates will find out Monday night or Tuesday morning who Harris has chosen.
