15 dead in military helicopter crash in Peru, only one dog survives

A plane crash has been recorded in Peru, where 15 people have lost their lives due to the crash of a military helicopter. Among the victims were 7 minors, while only a dog survived the accident.

He was accompanying Lieutenant Colonel Javier Nole, 50, who was on board the helicopter with his wife and two daughters. The victims include four military personnel and eleven civilians.

The helicopter, a Russian-made Mil Mi-17, that crashed had taken off from the city of Pisco. Its wreckage was found on the ground yesterday near the community of Chala, in the Arequipa region, more than 300 km from the take-off point.

The helicopter had been used in recent days for rescue operations from floods caused by heavy rains in the Arequipa region. The Peruvian Air Force has ordered an investigation to determine the causes of the serious air accident. /CNA
