"Trump's first choice for Iran is diplomacy"/ White House: Use of military force not ruled out

As the debate in Washington over the US stance on Iran intensifies, White House press secretary Caroline Leavitt said in a statement that President Donald Trump favors diplomacy but does not rule out the use of military force if necessary.

"As he has demonstrated, he is prepared to use the lethal force of the US military, if necessary ," she said.

Leavitt stressed that the US president himself will be the one to determine the course of action against Tehran. 

At the same time, she pointed to information circulated through anonymous sources, emphasizing that "anyone who speculates in the media, hides behind an anonymous source, claims to know what President Trump is thinking or what decision he will make regarding possible actions against Iran, has no idea what he is sleeping on."

Oman's Foreign Ministry earlier confirmed that talks between the US and Iran will resume in Geneva on February 26. This round of negotiations comes as US President Donald Trump is considering military strikes against Iran, increasing tensions in the region.  /CNA
