Four people arrested, suspected of fraud worth over 1.5 million euros

Four people have been arrested on suspicion of committing the criminal offense of fraud, the Basic Prosecution Office in Pristina announced.

Meanwhile, after a 48-hour detention, the court has ordered them to be detained for one month.

MM, SB, DR, and BZ are suspected of having caused material damage to the injured party, HM, in the amount of over 1.5 million euros, due to the sale of a property with forged documents.

According to the Prosecution, two of the arrested are also suspected of other criminal offenses, namely MM for forgery of documents and DR for the criminal offense of legalizing false content.

"According to the defendant's suspicions, with the aim of illegally obtaining material benefits for themselves, by concealing relevant facts and misleading the injured party HM, they have, in complicity, caused material damage in the amount of 1,578,180.00 euros," the announcement said.

The prosecution said it has issued a temporary restraining order for the relevant plots, as it is suspected that the property was sold on the basis of forged documents and transferred illegally.

The court was also requested to issue a restraining order for these plots until the conclusion of the criminal proceedings.

According to the laws in force in Kosovo, the criminal offense of fraud is punishable by three to ten years in prison, depending on the circumstances of the offense and the value of the damage. Meanwhile, forgery of an official or public document is punishable by a fine and imprisonment of up to eight years, the same as for the offense of legalizing false content./ REL
